Our Lady’s College in Galway has been awarded the National SCHOOL OF SANCTUARY status under the newly formed National Steering Committee of Schools of Sanctuary and and NUI Galway Access Centre. Yesterday on 25th of May 2021, the school was assessed by a team of monitors, including people active in refugee support work, refugees, and asylum seekers. Interviews were held with the principal, staff, students, and parents, which further demonstrated the school’s commitment to the ethos of the Schools of Sanctuary. Our Lady’s College was judged to be “outstanding” in terms of its commitment and activities for welcoming and including young people from a diverse range of backgrounds, including its promotion of pathways and supports into higher education.
