On June 15 2023, North Presentation Primary School in Cork city celebrated its biggest celebration of the year 2023, “Intercultural Day” and they certainly got the weather for it!

This school, a Member School of Sanctuary, counts over 54 nationalities among its student body – it’s something of a mini UN! The school’s Intercultural Committee along with parents, students and all staff members did a lot of hard work to make the day happen. The enthusiasm of the parents and the spirit of enjoyment and participation they had was heartening- they all brought their home-cooked national food and dressed in their traditional attire. Country of origin flags and the features of many new forms of Irishness, including Asian-Irish, European- Irish, African-Irish, were on display.

International music, parents-prepared project displays, henna stalls, dress showcases, food tasting tables, braid styling stalls, international flags, Irish dance, Zumba, Haka dances, and Ukrainian traditional performances, all kept the audience fully engaged.
